Clara Rodriguez
Founder
Principal Geoscientist with 21 years of experience in seismic interpretation of sedimentary basins, reservoir characterization, and seismic data management. She earned her Ph.D. in Geology (2017) and a Master's in Petroleum Geoscience (2007) from Imperial College, London, United Kingdom. Her BSc degree is in Geophysical Engineering (2002) from Simon Bolivar University in Caracas, Venezuela. Additionally, Clara completed her final year of Geophysical Engineering as an exchange student at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma, United States.
Her experience, spanning 15 years at Schlumberger and during her postgraduate studies, includes exploration, appraisal and development projects in sedimentary basins across diverse regions, including the South Atlantic margins, East Africa, the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Venezuela, and Trinidad and Tobago. Notably, during her doctoral research at Imperial College, London, she played a pivotal role in investigating intrasalt stratigraphy, salt controls on deepwater sedimentation, and the impact and significance of submarine salt dissolution.
During her tenure at Petronas from March 2020 to December 2023, Clara achieved the Principal level and received accolades such as the Most Impactful Person during Technical Assurance and the Best Technical Assurance award in 2022. Her work and methodologies were instrumental in a significant oil discovery offshore Mexico, showcasing her expertise and dedication to the energy industry.
Currently, Clara serves as the Founder and Managing Director of ExploreTerra, where she also holds roles as a consultant and instructor.
Clara is also a co-founder of the GeoLatinas non-profit organization (awarded the Team GRIT 2020 award) and co-founder of the AAPG Salt Tectonics Technical Interest Group.
